Huskies VB “Serves Up” Another Victory

On Tuesday September 25, the North Lakes Academy Huskies Volleyball team travelled to Calvin Christian in Fridley for a Eastern Minnesota Athletic Conference (EMAC)  battle.  The Huskies, who have been on a strong serving roll, continued that on Tuesday night with another strong performance of 19 total team service aces.

The first game both teams played very well, with Calvin Christian holding on to a 1 or 2 point lead for most of the set.  Late in the set, trailing 20-22, the Huskies got control of the serve after a serving error by Calvin Christian.  Junior Autumn Percy was the next to serve and served out the final five points of the set along with two service aces to give the Huskies a 25-22 set win.

Sets two and three were split between the two teams with Calvin Christian winning the second set 20-25 and North Lakes Academy winning the third set 25-23. During these two sets the Huskies served up another 8 service aces.

Construction on Broadway Comes to a Close

by Cody Warren, staff writer

19 MONTHS AND $26 MILLION DOLLARS LATER…

Broadway, one of the main roads in Forest Lake has undergone extensive construction since Spring of 2011.  A year and a half later, things are finally starting to wrap up.

The total cost of the Broadway Project is nearly $26 million, according to City Administrator Aaron Parrish.  The county and federal government payed for most of the project; however, Forest Lake contributed $5.5 million. The City’s share covers a portion of the construction, burying the overhead power lines, and installing or relocating water and sewer utilities.

Other projects that have happened in conjunction with the Broadway project include the installation of a roundabout at Broadway and Lake Street, two pedestrian bridges over the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail, and the construction of the 11th Avenue/County 83 Bridge over 11th Avenue.
